Goldener Berg: A Ski-In, Ski-Out Alpine Retreat Above Lech

High above Lech, in the peaceful and exclusive enclave of Oberlech, Goldener Berg is far more than a ski hotel - it is a destination rooted in centuries of history, designed for those who seek both alpine adventure and holistic well-being.

Set at 1700 meters above sea level, this ski-in, ski-out retreat seamlessly blends its deep historical roots with a modern philosophy centered around nature, balance, and elevated living.

Let’s get to know each other

Why should you come here?

Goldener Berg is the kind of place you choose when you want more than just a ski holiday.

The ski-in, ski-out access alone makes it incredibly convenient - especially in a destination like Oberlech, where being directly on the slopes transforms your entire daily rhythm. No transfers, no waiting - just step outside and start skiing.

But what truly elevates the experience is the balance between activity and relaxation. You can spend the day exploring the vast Arlberg ski area, and within minutes be back at the hotel, unwinding in a heated outdoor pool overlooking the mountains or enjoying a multi-course dinner.

The culinary experience is another compelling reason to visit. With multiple dining concepts—from fine dining to traditional fondue in a 600-year-old setting and an interactive open kitchen - the hotel offers variety that keeps every evening fresh and memorable.

The most special thing about the hotel

What makes Goldener Berg truly stand out is its ability to connect past and present in a very natural way.

Few places manage to preserve such a deep sense of history while still feeling modern and relevant. The fact that parts of the hotel date back over 600 years - and that this heritage is still visible and experienced today - creates a unique atmosphere you can genuinely feel.

At the same time, the hotel doesn’t rely solely on its history. Its philosophy, focused on well-being, balance, and connection to nature, gives the entire experience a deeper meaning. It’s not just about staying in a beautiful place - it’s about how that place makes you feel.

Then there are the small but unforgettable moments: skiing directly from the hotel, enjoying exceptional food, relaxing in the outdoor pool with mountain views, and ending the day under a clear, star-filled sky. It’s this combination - location, history, philosophy, and experience - that makes Goldener Berg more than just a hotel. It becomes a place you remember long after you leave.

Location & Arrival

Reaching Goldener Berg is part of the experience itself.

After arriving by car and parking in the underground facility in Lech, guests continue their journey via ski lift up to Oberlech—an entirely car-free alpine village during winter. From there, it’s a short walk through the snow to the hotel, instantly immersing you in a serene, high-altitude atmosphere.

The location is one of the hotel’s strongest assets. With direct ski-in, ski-out access, you can step out of the hotel and glide straight onto the slopes of the Arlberg ski area—one of the most renowned ski regions in the world.

Dining: A Culinary Journey Across Time

Dining at Goldener Berg is not just a highlight - it’s a defining part of the experience. Over the course of three evenings, each dinner offered something entirely different:

Fine Dining Experience

The classic multi-course dinner showcases a refined approach to alpine cuisine. With a variety of fish and meat dishes, the menu balances elegance with depth of flavor. A standout moment was the steak, perfectly paired with red wine - simple, yet executed to perfection.

Sonnenterrasse & Historic Fondue

One of the most memorable settings is the Sonnenterrasse restaurant, located in a building that dates back over 600 years. Sitting within these historic walls while enjoying a traditional fondue creates a unique connection between past and present—an atmosphere that cannot be replicated.

Open Kitchen Experience

Perhaps the most engaging concept is the open kitchen dinner. Guests are invited directly into the kitchen, where they can interact with the chefs, observe the process, and experience the culinary craft firsthand. It transforms dinner into something personal, immersive, and memorable.

The hotel’s culinary philosophy focuses on seasonal, regional ingredients—often sourced from local farmers—bringing a natural and authentic approach to every dish.

Wine Cellar & Alpine Heritage

Goldener Berg is also home to one of the most impressive wine selections in the region, with around 1800 different wines curated over decades.

Beyond wine, the hotel embraces its heritage through small exhibition spaces featuring historic skis and alpine tools. These details add depth to the stay, reminding guests that this is not just a modern resort, but a place shaped by centuries of mountain life. The story of Goldener Berg dates back to the 15th century, when it began as a mountain farm. Over time, it evolved into one of the first ski hotels in the region - welcoming early ski enthusiasts long before the Alps became a global winter destination.

"The interiors emphasize regional craftsmanship and comfort - simple yet refined, allowing the environment outside to take center stage."

Spa & Wellness: A Place to Recharge

The Alpin Spa is designed as a space of calm and restoration.

After a day on the slopes, the experience of moving between the indoor pool, saunas, and the outdoor heated pool becomes a ritual in itself. The outdoor pool, in particular, stands out—offering breathtaking mountain views while surrounded by crisp alpine air.

A quiet room provides the perfect environment to unwind, while the overall spa concept reflects the hotel’s broader philosophy: balance between body, mind, and environment.

Philosophy: More Than Just a Stay

What sets Goldener Berg apart is its deeper philosophy.

Described as a “place of power,” the hotel is built around the idea of reconnecting with oneself - through nature, movement, and mindful living. This concept is reflected in everything from the cuisine and spa to the overall atmosphere of the property.

The guiding principle, developed by host Daniela Pfefferkorn, emphasizes holistic well-being - combining physical activity, mental clarity, and emotional balance into a single, cohesive experience.

The Experience

What truly defines Goldener Berg is the feeling it leaves behind.

Skiing directly from the hotel onto pristine slopes, returning for an exceptional dinner, and ending the evening under a sky full of stars - these are the moments that stay with you.

The combination of ski-in, ski-out convenience, outstanding cuisine, rich history, and a strong sense of place creates an experience that feels both effortless and deeply meaningful.
