A modern mountain residence where spacious apartments, star-filled skies, and a serene alpine spa create the feeling of living in your own luxury retreat in the Italian Alps.

Hidden deep in the mountains of South Tyrol, Mountain Residence Montana offers a different kind of alpine stay. Instead of the traditional hotel format, the property provides spacious modern apartments surrounded by pristine nature and dramatic mountain landscapes.

We stayed here for two nights at the beginning of February, during the quiet winter season. Arriving by car is definitely the best way to reach the residence. The road leads further into the mountains, away from busy towns and crowded ski resorts, until suddenly the modern structure of the residence appears among snowy alpine surroundings.

Our first impression was simply incredible. The building looks sleek and contemporary while still fitting beautifully into the landscape. Large glass windows reflect the surrounding mountains, and the atmosphere immediately feels calm and exclusive.

A Spacious Apartment With Alpine Views

What surprised us the most was the size of the apartment. It felt far more like a private alpine residence than a hotel room.

Our apartment included a large living room, a fully equipped kitchen, and plenty of space to relax after a long day outdoors. Everything felt modern, clean, and thoughtfully designed. The underground garage made arrival very convenient, especially during winter, and the ski room was located nearby, making it easy to store equipment after skiing.

But the highlight of the apartment was undoubtedly the terrace.

From our huge private terrace, we had uninterrupted views of the surrounding alpine peaks. During our stay we experienced several magical moments there - watching the sunset paint the mountains in soft colors, seeing a bright full moon rise above the valley, and spending time stargazing under incredibly clear skies. With almost no light pollution in the area, the stars felt unusually bright and close. Moments like these are what make staying deep in the mountains so special.

A Beautiful Alpine Spa Experience

After long days outside in the snow, the wellness area at Mountain Residence Montana became one of our favorite parts of the stay.

The spa features a large indoor pool as well as a heated outdoor pool, which is especially magical during winter. Swimming outside while surrounded by snowy mountains is an experience that perfectly captures the alpine atmosphere.

The spa also includes a sauna and a refreshing cold plunge, ideal for those who enjoy the classic hot-and-cold wellness ritual.

We found that the best time to visit the spa was in the evening. As darkness settles over the valley, the quiet becomes even more noticeable. Floating in the warm outdoor pool while looking up at a sky full of stars created one of the most relaxing moments of the entire trip.

In addition to the spa facilities, the residence also offers a well-equipped fitness room for guests who like to stay active during their travels. While many visitors come to the Alps primarily for outdoor activities like skiing, hiking, or snowboarding, having a gym on-site is a great bonus - especially during winter days when the weather might be colder or after a long day on the slopes. The fitness area provides a quiet space to continue your workout routine while still enjoying the peaceful mountain atmosphere of Mountain Residence Montana. For us, it was another thoughtful detail that adds to the feeling of a complete and comfortable alpine retreat.

Quiet Nature and a Relaxed Atmosphere

Even though there were other guests staying at the residence, the property never felt crowded. The apartment layout creates a sense of privacy, and the peaceful surroundings add to the feeling of calm.

At night, the silence in the mountains is remarkable. Without city noise or traffic, the entire valley becomes incredibly quiet, making it easy to fully disconnect and relax.

This is the kind of place where you naturally slow down and enjoy simple moments - tea on the terrace, watching the mountains, or planning the next day’s adventures.

Perfect Base for Skiing in the Dolomites

Winter travelers will also appreciate the location. There is a smaller ski resort nearby, perfect for a relaxed day on the slopes, but the residence is also well positioned for exploring some of the larger ski areas in the region.

Within about 30 minutes by car you can reach both Kronplatz Ski Resort and San Candido, which offer extensive slopes for skiing and snowboarding.

This makes Mountain Residence Montana a great base for winter adventures while still allowing you to return to a peaceful mountain retreat at the end of the day.

Living Your Own Alpine Apartment Life

Since the property operates as an apartment residence rather than a traditional hotel, there is no breakfast service. But the fully equipped kitchen made it easy to prepare our own breakfast each morning. Enjoying tea and a simple homemade breakfast while looking out at the mountains felt like a perfect start to the day.

In many ways, this format actually enhances the experience. Instead of feeling like hotel guests, we felt as if we were temporarily living in our own alpine apartment.

That sense of independence combined with the luxury amenities — the spa, the modern design, the stunning views — created a very special atmosphere throughout our stay.

Mountain Residence Montana felt special because it truly felt like we were living in our own luxury apartment in the middle of the Italian Alps.

For travelers looking for peace, space, and beautiful mountain scenery, this quiet alpine residence is a place where it’s easy to slow down, breathe deeply, and simply enjoy the magic of the mountains.
