Livigno: Amazing Skiing, Dining and Duty-free Shopping
Livigno is a ski resort in a duty-free area of Italy's Lombardy region, right on the Swiss border. It is famous for its child-friendly infrastructure and is ideal for beginner and intermediate skiers and snowboarders. I enjoyed the lively après ski scene, the 250 duty-free shops and the amazing restaurants and bars.
So here are my personal favourite things to do in Livigno.
Go Skiing

Livigno is colloquially known as Little Tibet because of its remote location high in the mountains in northern Italy. This means great skiing and views, but it also means transfer times are long. There’s a minimum four-hour drive to the resort from any of the nearest airports.
There are two separate ski areas at Livigno, one on either side of the valley. The bigger of the two is Costaccia-Carosello 300, the other is the Mottolino area to the east, a ski-bus journey away from Carosello.
The majority of the pistes are mid-range reds, with a couple of short black runs providing a greater challenge for upper intermediates.

Livigno is absolute heaven for kids. Italians are brilliant with children and my daughter just didn’t want to leave her ski school after spending a week there. Kids’ ski school in Livigno starts with two hours of skiing every day. At the end of the week there is a competition and pizza party, so the little ones leave with great memories. There is also Lumpigno fun park, where kids of all ages can spend time playing or skiing.
Go adventure

If you need more adrenaline, try out the skimobiles. Take them high in to the mountains at sunset and go for a breath-taking ride. They’re similar to jet-skis, and you’ll need to make sure you hold the wheel strongly on the steep slopes and through the sharp turns.

Thank you Cars and More. I really enjoyed your fast and smooth service.

Go Shopping

The most obvious non-skiing attraction of Livigno is the duty-free shopping. There are vast numbers of fashion boutiques, electronic goods shops, and supermarkets selling alcohol and tobacco. All offering substantial savings on usual euro-zone prices.

Go to a Spa

End the day with total relaxation. For a bit of pampering away from the shops and slopes, try the Aquagranda spa near the lake at northern end of Livigno. This stylish complex houses various pools, aqua-leisure and hydro-massage facilities, a fitness suite and a beauty spa. If you have kids, take them to the aqua park located in the same building. Please be aware that kids under 16 are not allowed in the spa area, as they have a no-swimsuit policy in all saunas.
There are also the thermal spas in Bormio, which make a great half-day trip from Livigno.

Go Gourmet

There are many food options in town, most of them serving pizza, pasta and burgers (this is Italy, after all). But don’t worry, as all those extra calories will be burned on slopes. Our absolute favourite was Pizzeria Bait dal Ghet, where at any time of the day the wait to be seated is approximately an hour. The wait is worth it, as they serve absolutely delicious pizzas which arrive quickly once seated. They also provide a free alcoholic welcome drink, and one after your meal.
