The Famous Del Posto Restaurant in NYC: Better than you ever Imagined
An Italian restaurant near iconic Chelsea Market with one Michelin Star automatically puts this eatery in the league of high expectations. However, when we came here we immediately realised that this restaurant is even better than we ever could have hoped.

The brainchild of world-famous chefs, Mario Batali, Joe Bastianich, Lidia Bastianich, and Mark Ladner, it impressed from our very first steps inside - the setting is opulent beyond words. A sense of European luxury is clear in the beautifully dressed tables, polished marble, and windows draped in fine silks and billowing fabrics.

The restaurant website promises “the ultimate expression of what an Italian restaurant should be.” And you know that must be true, as Del Posto only opened in 2010 and has received numerous awards since then, among them a coveted four-star review from The New York Times, the first Italian restaurant to achieve such an accolade in nearly four decades. It’s been voted in first place among the best restaurants in America and the best Italian restaurants in America. It’s definitely the best Italian restaurant in NYC by far.

We came here during lunch time and the restaurant was full. Needless to say, you need to book a table in advance. But despite being busy, we got lots of attention from the waiters and our dishes were brought and plates removed at the ideal speed. The waiters were very professional, conversational and classically buttoned up at the same time. Along with each dish came an interesting story about it from the waiter, likewise each wine was accompanied by a story from the talented sommelier.

We opted for the lunch tasting menu of 6 different dishes accompanied by sommelier-selected wines. It was perfect right down to the bread serving. It consisted of a baguette with aerated mozzarella, which included crème fraiche and cultured Battenkill Valley cream that is whipped to a butter and then, with molecular gastronomy technology, turned into tender cheese balls. Doesn’t that sound fantastic? And that was just the beginning!

Famous Italian Beef carpaccio, lobster salad with lemon aïoli and soft herbs, seared lamb chop and neck, and an amazing 24-month-old parmigiano-reggiano with a 25-year-old balsamico after the dessert – everything was so delicious you just can’t imagine how they could make it any better.

This place is definitely among my personal top 5 restaurants in the world.
