Ski lifts view

Verbier is one of the most famous snowboarding places in the world, attracting riders from all over the globe; but only those who can actually afford it as it is considered the most expensive village in Switzerland. Verbier is a very sophisticated resort with a modern interwoven ski lift system and flawlessly prepared slopes. It has an enormous ride area as it joins with four other valleys, with more than 90 lifts and over 400km of slopes that can be ridden with one ski pass.

St. Anton mountain view

St. Anton is famous for the best terrain in all of Austria. In order to get maximum enjoyment from your snowboarding holiday, you need to be at least intermediate level. After a day on the slopes you can relax with an après ski as it is the wildest one in Austria. The St. Anton ski pass allows you to not only ride there, but also in Zurs, Lech, Christoph and Stuben, which offers an amazing snowboarding terrain with astonishing amounts of powder. St. Anton slopes have truly been created for piste lovers and free riders with plenty of natural hits for freestylers. It is the only place in Austria where you can heli-board. St. Anton’s après ski starts at the top of the mountain and continues at the bottom of the resort. However, before continuing to après ski it’s a must to change your snowboarding boots as, after 8pm, no bars or restaurants will let you in.

Mountain view in Chamonix

Chamonix is located at the base of the highest mountain in Central Europe, Mont Blanc, between the junctions of France, Italy and Switzerland. Besides an impressive location, Chamonix hosts world competitions in climbing, skiing and snowboarding. Chamonix is a world-renowned resort that is a year-round destination and is known for being the original ski resort, long before anyone had thought of purpose-built ski resorts. As soon as the snow melts, climbers from all over the world come here. The resort has an amazing vibe and tempts people from the slopes with tons of bars and shops, and from cheap eats to gourmet restaurants. Compared to some other resorts, Chamonix can be a little messy and not as well-maintained as neighbouring resorts, with a dated lift system and long queues for the bus. However, it has its own charm.

Breathtaking view of slopes in Laax

Laax is snowboarding heaven as it is known known to be the friendliest snowboarders’ resort in Switzerland. The biggest snowboarding competition in Europe is held here and big names in entertainment, like DJs and pop stars, also attend. Laax has one of the best ski lift systems with lots of fast gondolas you rarely have to queue for. Therefore, Laax is a very relaxed and enjoyable resort where you can find lots of cafés and restaurants to suit any budget.

Snowboarding in Austrian Alps

Ischgl, located just over an hour’s drive from Innsbruck, the capital of the Austrian Alps, with the most advanced lift system in the world, a long season, a great terrain park, and an awesome nightlife, is however quite lavish. You will find that big posh gangs come from all over Europe. Though thanks to Austrian hospitality, you will find enormous portions in any café or restaurant which will feed a whole family for just €25. The pistes in Ischgl are all between 2,000 metres and 2,800 metres and mainly suited to more intermediate and advanced riders. Though some areas with easy off-piste access can be easily piloted by beginners. Every year, for the opening and closing of the season, Ischgl organises huge concerts at a height of 2,300 metres with big names like Rihanna, Tiesto and Kylie Minogue. The village itself is very compact and the centre is car free. Most of the accommodation is 4-star plus, therefore book in advance. And for really fun clubs, Ischgl is the only ski resort that has an Ibiza-style club - Pacha.

The world is huge and there are so many things to see and do. Therefore, every year, I try to go back to a place where I have been before and to travel to a new spot I haven’t been to yet. So, I must confess that in the last four years I’ve travelled to Cuba four times.
