You Can't Leave Sri Lanka Without Doing These 5 Things

Travelling to Sri Lanka? You will be amazed at the beautiful attractions you will find here. They are simply irresistible to anyone who wants to treat themselves!

Amazing view Sri Lanka coast

Sri Lanka is the place to be - here you will find breathtaking beaches with beautiful colonial style villas, safari parks, and finger-licking food. You will be amazed at the incredible natural landscape of Sri Lanka and its varied cuisine. All of this combines to give you everything you need and more, should you find yourself in this idyllic holiday-maker's paradise.

Delicious Sri Lanka food

Sri Lankan food has been influenced by various cultural interactions between the people of Sri Lanka, Dutch colonialists, and the South Indians. Feast on appetising deep-fried snacks, different curries and other delicious dishes, including: fish ambulthiyal (sour fish curry), kottu, hoppers, polos (green jackfruit curry), wambatumoju (eggplant/brinjals pickle), kiribath with lunumiris, and pol sambol (coconut relish). Sri Lankan food simply explodes with flavour!

Villa on Sri Lanka

You will easily fall in love with these beautiful gems tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the towns and cities. These villas are built in Dutch Colonial style and are spacious with numerous bedrooms, bathrooms and amazing room service. Some of the best hotels and villas are renovated colonial-era hotels. Our favourite was Eraeliya Villas and Gardens in Weligama, on the southern tip of Sri Lanka. Here, it's all about great design and absolute privacy.

Relaxing at Sri Lanka beach

If you're looking for a relaxing day at the beach, the beaches in the south of Sri Lanka will give you just what you need. You can even swim in the sea at Bentota in January! Tangalle Beach not only offers more budget and mid-range accommodation choices, but it also has a selection of different bays, a few nice restaurants and a lot of exciting excursions within easy reach.

Mirissa is another lovely one, and let's not forget Unawatuna Beach, which has the best choice of restaurants on the south coast, a small and unbelievably pretty bay, and lots of mid-range accommodation options. Hikkaduwa Beach is full of lots of restaurants and good surfing at the Narigama end which is south of the main town. This is the place I would personally recommend if you happen to travel to the south.

Sri Lanka safari

The safari parks here are teeming with elephants, birds and a great variety of wildlife, and it is one of the best places in Asia to see wildlife. Don’t miss:

• Yala West National Park located in the south east, best known for its leopards.

• UdaWalawe National Park, famous for its elephant population - 500 in total.

• Wasgomuwa National Park, with its fascinating Buddha-packed caves of the Dambulla.

• Sinharaja Rainforest Reserve, best known for its exotic birds and also for being near Mirisa Beaches.

Enjoying Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka has everything you could possibly imagine: you can do yoga on the beach or looking at the meditative rice fields; you can try surfing the big waves of the Indian Ocean or exploring a tea plantation where you can pick up the best tea in the world; you can enjoy a cool drink of Sri Lankan king coconut while lying on the beach...

But don’t rush - relax and enjoy the amazing vibes and scenery around you. Slow down and savour.

I fell in love with traveling much earlier than I fell in love with my first man. And I'm still faithful to that love (But I have exchanged some men since my first one). I have never had a reason to regret my passion. I constantly dream of going further, it gives me indescribable emotions and meaning to my life.
