Beech Hill Hotel: It’s All About the View
We loved the Lake District the first time we saw it when we came here last year. Since then, we've been dreaming of coming back to this magnificent and mysterious part of England. And here we are again! This time we stayed in a quiet and peaceful place overlooking Lake Windermere, with an award-winning restaurant, brand new spa and stunning views - Beech Hill Hotel.

The Lake District or “The Lakes”, as the locals affectionately call the area, is located in north west England, about five hours drive from London, close to the border with Scotland.

Beech Hill Hotel is perched on a hill with amazing views over the largest natural lake in England - Windermere. The “View” is the main feature of the hotel and its real treasure. Wherever you go, you can enjoy the beauty of the lake: from the restaurant, from the terrace, from the hotel rooms and even from the spa.

The hotel has a very convenient location - just five minutes drive from the very popular town and the heart of the Lake District, Bowness-on-Windermere. At the same time, Beech Hill Hotel is hidden far from the noisy streets and crowds of people. It was the perfect combination for us and for anyone searching for total solitude.

One can sit with a glass of wine or a coffee on the terrace and observe steamers and launches operating all day long.

You can even see the two oldest steamers in The Lakes – Lady of the Lake and The Swan - still operating here. Lady of the Lake, built in 1936. 20 years later, the boat carried Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

You can also go down the hill to the lakeside. There is a private beach, jetty area and a lovely garden, where one can enjoy a lakeside Afternoon Tea or a book.

In the evening, the hotel bar invites guests to watch the sunset and to catch the last of the sun's rays on the terrace.

One more thing the hotel can be proud of is a brand new spa with an indoor swimming pool, two saunas and an open air jacuzzi on the sun deck area.

After a relaxing day in the hotel and a lovely spa session, we decided to have dinner at the Beech Hill Hotel restaurant, The Burlington. We certainly didn't regret it. The food and the service was excellent.

The Burlington restaurant has held the AA Rosettes award for quality and hospitality for the last ten years. One can choose either a three- or five-course meal from the Gourmet menu, featuring a fusion of French and English cuisine, modern and traditional dishes, and containing only the best local products.

Beautifully presented dishes from The Burlington’s chef.

The restaurant is highly regarded by local people, and fondly remembered by all who have dined here. Dinner in The Burlington is a real culinary adventure you won’t forget.

To enjoy the hotel in full, we recommend booking a Premier Plus room. These are the newest and most luxurious rooms in the hotel with king-sized beds and, of course, amazing views and patios.

If you are celebrating a special occasion, we advise you to book the Ruskin Suite or the Wordsworth Suite. The former is the largest and most stylish room in the hotel with a bubbling spa bath and patio.

The Wordsworth Suite has floor to ceiling windows that provide the best views of the Lake. It also has a private garden area with seating and your own open-air hot tub.

The first hotel was built here back in the 1900s. One can still see the original stone walls by the entrance. Since then, the hotel has changed and become much bigger.
