Tamarind Hill – a traditional hotel on Sri Lanka. We stayed there for a day during our journey around the island. Located within a mile of the old Galle Fort, it is a charming property with a rich history.
We loved staying in the inner garden of the hotel, with a huge tamarind tree older than this aristocratic manor house, and the former residence of the British Admiral of the 19th century. This hotel dates back to 1764, and this explains why the Captain and Admiral Suites are so full of antique furniture and accessories and feel a little like sea museums.
We loved the calm atmosphere and the rich colonial style of the hotel's architecture, with a large veranda, high ceilings, historic works of art everywhere and a secluded swimming pool with white stairs leading to it.
The location of the hotel invites exploration, so we did just that in the morning, walking around the historic trading port of Galle and visiting Galle Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. After our lunch on the beautiful veranda in the inner garden, we went for a canoe trip down the nearby river, seeing exotic birds and funny monkeys in the treetops.
And we ended this amazing day with dinner by the pool at the hotel, which was just excellent - a superb blend of sophisticated service and an international fine dining menu.
New York is one of my favourite cities. It has an energy that no other city has. Christmas is a great time to visit this great metropolis; even if it's just to buy Christmas presents, to walk along Fifth Avenue and Soho or even to ice skate in front of the Rockefeller Centre, near the famous Christmas tree.
Ecotourism is gaining in popularity all the time. However, not all “green” lifestyle supporters are ready to stay in a modest bungalow with the comfort levels of Robinson Crusoe’s island.
Abu Dhabi is a very popular stopover connection for many travellers, and so it was for us on our way to Mauritius. This time, instead of just taking a short 3-hour break like we always do, we went further and took a full 20-hour long stopover. So the main question was - what can you really manage to do in Abu Dhabi in just 20 hours?
Rūmene Manor, the country estate of Riga's 5* Hotel Bergs, is a hidden gem just waiting to be discovered. Nestled not far from the capital, Rūmene Manor has a rich history stretching all the way back to 1876, and boasts a Neo-Renaissance style that historians agree is truly something special.
As a big fan of and frequent visitor to the Maldives, I’m often asked which accommodation is best when travelling to these sunny islands. On Angsana Velavaru, the choice is obvious – it has to be a water villa. Angsana’s second Maldivian property, which has a strong Asian feel, is most notable for its ‘InOcean’ water villas. Their uniqueness lies in their remoteness from the shore and absolute privacy – the stand-alone structures are situated a kilometre from the main island and are reachable only by boat across the lagoon.

I fell in love with traveling much earlier than I fell in love with my first man. And I'm still faithful to that love (But I have exchanged some men since my first one). I have never had a reason to regret my passion. I constantly dream of going further, it gives me indescribable emotions and meaning to my life.
