The Sky Garden: Welcome to the Highest Gardens in Europe
We love London, and we just couldn’t miss one of its newest and most unique places - the Sky Garden, located in the recently opened skyscraper at 20 Fenchurch Street in the very heart of London's business district.

Construction was completed in 2014 and the Sky Garden, situated on the 34th floor, was opened in 2015. It's now the fifth tallest building in London. The building itself is something special; it has a curved shape and reminds you of a walkie-talkie from the distance.

Once you exit the elevator, you enter a huge hall with glass windows, walls and ceiling. A small bar is located right in the middle of the room where you can grab a drink and find a nice place to admire the view, which I have to admit is just breathtaking. The city of London is right in front of you with Canary Wharf on one side, and Greenwich and London city centre on the other, including Big Ben and Westminster Abbey.

The Sky Garden has 360-degree panoramic windows so you can relax and take in the whole of London.

The name comes from the idea itself - to create a garden in the sky. The place is beautifully decorated with all kind of plants, flowers and even trees, and the best thing is that you can find a seat in so many different places, be it among the plants or by the window.

Of course, during summer time a terrace is available as well. Unfortunately, it was still closed in May although we felt quite comfortable indoors.

The main goal of our visit was the lively, all-day brasserie which offers classic European dishes created using only the finest seasonal ingredients.

The Darwin Restaurant is located above the main room and boasts an extremely cosy atmosphere. We were lucky enough to get a table right by the window with a wonderful view of Sky Garden and of London itself.

And just when you think it can’t get any better, it does. The staff at the Darwin Restaurant were wonderful and very friendly. They welcomed us and suggested some of the best dishes they had.

So we ended up with a delicious steak washed down with excellent red wine, followed by a dessert that I’ll remember for a long time. The dinner was so good, we still sometimes refer to it as one of the best among recent trips.

If you want our advice, we would suggest visiting in the evening time. This way, you’ll be able to experience an amazing sunset over London - if you are lucky with the weather. Stunning warm orange skies over London was exactly what we got, making the Sky Garden one of the best places to catch a sunset in London.

I have to admit that visiting the Darwin Restaurant made our visit to London even more spectacular. We spent more than three hours experiencing an evening view of London, followed by a dreamy sunset, and ending up with a gorgeous view of the city streets by night.

I truly can’t think of a better way to spend an evening in London.
