The Halkin by COMO: London Luxury with Italian Zen
Located in the embassy district of Belgravia, one of London’s first contemporary-design hotels, The Halkin by COMO, is perfectly placed for exploring the most famous attractions like Harrods, Oxford Street, the London Eye, museums, art galleries and Covent Garden’s opera and street theatre. It offers large, generously lit rooms and a special atmosphere that can be described as “Italian Zen”.

This intimate London hotel is tucked away in a nice quiet street with an unassuming façade, yet is still close enough to the city buzz.

Refreshing welcome drinks were served to us on arrival at the bar near reception by professional staff that made us feel immediately at ease, and set the tone for our lovely stay.

The combination of timeless Milanese design with perceptible Asian roots is an example of a design-conscious hotel, with subtle lighting, minimalist interiors, impressive Eastern sculptures, and bold use of timber details. This elegant design by the Italian group, Laboratorio Associati, is luxurious, but warm and inviting at the same time.

Every detail has been thought through and the second-to-none service is exceptionally slick. The staff are wonderfully attentive – from the front desk to the restaurant to room service.

Clean geometric lines, naturally muted colours and the best materials are the cornerstones of the room design.

The richly-coloured, marble bathrooms with power showers and deep soaking tubs, complemented by exclusive COMO Shambhala products, give you the feeling of being in a spa for an aromatherapy treatment. But if you want to enjoy the real spa, you can access it at The Halkin’s famed sister hotel, The Metropolitan.

We loved our spacious top floor room which was quiet, discreet, minimalist, fashionable and extremely comfortable.

The room had a peaceful terrace - a place where you could feel at home and not like you were in the middle of a huge city.

Re-opened in 2013, the restaurant, with Juan Mari Arzak and his daughter Elenaat at the helm, continues the tradition of high-class dining at The Halkin by COMO Hotel. Having achieved 3 Michelin stars in their flagship restaurant in San Sebastián, the chefs bring modern Basque cuisine to central London.

The wave-like ceiling of the Ametsa restaurant, created from 7,000 hanging glass tubes filled with spices, sets the artistic tone for the cuisine. Diners can expect organic produce and locally-sourced meals with earthy flavors.

Every dish is a masterpiece of flavours, shapes and colours.

A delicious breakfast is also served at the Ametsa with Arzak Instruction restaurant.

We enjoyed the decor and ambience of this hotel. This, combined with the Michelin-starred dining, made our stay memorable.
