Wellington Lounge Afternoon Tea: Experiencing the Most Decadent English Tradition
If you're looking for an excuse to feast on delicious cake, sandwich and scone cream teas for several hours, look no further than the elegant and beautiful tea ceremony at Wellington Lounge.

Wellington Lounge stands proudly on the site of Queen Elizabeth's former residence. The town house at 145 Piccadilly was Princess Elizabeth's childhood home until they moved to Buckingham Palace. During the war, the building was destroyed in the blitz. InterContinental London Park Lane Hotel opened its doors on the former site of the Royal Family’s town house in 1975.

Wellington Lounge welcomes visitors who want to experience a traditional English afternoon tea with a modern flavour. Situated between Mayfair and Knightsbridge, the building overlooks the Royal Park and iconic London landmarks, and provides a view of London's Wellington Arch. Sitting by the window, we were able to observe the dynamic city life, be part of it, yet not exposed too much; we were nicely sheltered from the hustle and bustle outside.

The elegant natural interior, in muted shades of beige and grey, is very inviting. The space is beautifully decorated and provides a haven for guests to enjoy a sophisticated tea service in a relaxing atmosphere.

Wellington Lounge's three-option menu offers something to suit all tastes. They serve classic and modern English teas, as well as offering a seasonal menu that includes the best ingredients from the British Isles. A vegetarian - and even a gluten-free menu - satisfies everyone’s needs.

An outstandingly knowledgeable waitress helped us choose and explained all about the tea selection. Wellington Lounge has developed their own bespoke tea blend in association with the modern tea emporium, The Tea Palace. Enjoying the afternoon tea here, you understand why Wellington Lounge was awarded 'The Tea Guild Special Award of Excellence 2013' for their superior quality and high standards in afternoon tea service.

Upon our arrival, we quickly received refreshing cocktails which we enjoyed while waiting for the tea and sandwiches to be freshly prepared for us. We didn’t have to wait long; the tea and food arrived in no time.

The delicious treats were well-presented: beautiful, colourful, captivating and so tempting we had to try everything immediately. Each and every one of them was spectacular! The staff were so attentive that empty plates vanished without us noticing, and refilled plates came quickly and quietly.

This course was followed by freshly-baked fluffy scones with jam and clotted cream, a traditional component of the English cream tea.

Having finished those (they were so tasty we ate every last crumb) it was on to the dessert, a selection of small but exquisite cakes - and all of this was accompanied by an unlimited supply of different teas.

We spent a few hours in Wellington Lounge, and even though the place was full, no one ever hurried us. The staff, whilst very professional, also seemed to enjoy their jobs and this made for a very relaxing atmosphere. From the moment we walked in to the moment we left, the food, tea, service and attention to detail was absolutely flawless.
