Grand Mencey Hotel on Tenerife: the Place that Makes You Feel Like a Movie Star

When we were planning our vacation on the biggest island of the Canary archipelago, first of all we decided to explore the capital – Santa Cruz. We knew this place was not the most popular tourist destination, but we couldn’t miss the main city of Tenerife. And we didn’t regret it as we were lucky to stay at the legendary Iberostar Grand Mencey Hotel, where the King of Spain once celebrated his birthday.

The first thing we loved about the hotel was the view from our gorgeous room. The hotel is located in the centre of the capital overlooking the park on one side and mountains on another.

This hotel is loved by the Spanish Royal family and many celebrities. So we were happy to join them.

Most of the city hotels are very busy and noisy. But Iberostar Grand Hotel Mencey is located in a very quiet residential area and it does indeed care about the privacy and peace of its guests.

Just entering the hotel, I felt like in the Royal Palace. And I would not be surprised to see the Queen walking down the restaurant. A massive crystal chandelier, majestic Greek columns and huge flower bowls made me feel very special here.

The construction of the hotel started in 1945 in order to attract tourists to the capital, offering them an exclusive place to stay. Five years later, designed in the traditional for Santa Cruz colonial style, it earned a great reputation among the most demanding travelers.

For the last six years, the hotel has been managed by the Iberostar Hotels & Resorts chain. All the rooms were refurbished and newly decorated. At the same time, designers tried to preserve the special spirit of this place, so we could feel the connection between the old times and the new era; the mix of traditions and modernity.

After a busy day, it’s time to visit a new hotel’s spa and its wonderful Thai Zen Suite for a massage or have a swim at the outdoor heated swimming pool with ocean water.

And here I am - already in a taxi, looking at the turquoise water and palm trees along the seaside boardwalks during my half-hour  trip to the gorgeous Cape Antibes, one of the most expensive and luxurious places throughout the French Riviera which attracts the rich and famous from all over the world.
