Benidorm: THE Buzz on the Costa Blanca
I’d never heard about Benidorm until I actually went there; and now I am absolutely in love with it. Being the main tourist destination along Costa Blanca, it is completely different from other popular resort towns along the Mediterranean Sea coast of Spain. It has it all: traces of traditional Spain, combined with bar-lined promenades along beautiful and clean beaches, and a lively nightlife.
With its wide variety of skyscrapers, this town has the most high-rise buildings per capita in the world. The tallest hotel in Europe is also located in Benidorm, Gran Hotel Bali is 210 meters tall and its roof terrace is a ‘must visit’ place.

Approaching Benidorm from a distance, its impressive skyline looks breathtaking; and it really stands out against the landscape.

Most of the hotels and holiday apartments in the town are located within easy reach of the beach. However, there are many luxury villas scattered around the town, on the hills, offering stunning views of the coastline.

The luxurious Villa Diamond was our home in Benidorm and it made our stay superb.

There are endless recreation possibilities in Benidorm for every taste: swimming in the crystal clear waters, sunbathing on the 4-mile long sandy beach…
…walking along the promenade…

… going on boat trips and doing water sports…
… visiting one of the three family-oriented theme parks, exploring the historical Old Town…
… and of course, experiencing the vibrant nightlife of Benidorm. In order to experience authentic Spanish culture, Basque Street in the old town must be visited. It is a tapas alley where the selection of different snacks and wines can drive you crazy. It became our favourite place to begin a night out.
We were advised by some local people to visit the ‘Benidorm Palace’ to see the ‘Moulin Rouge-style’ show. And so we did… and we were absolutely amazed! A fabulous spectacle of color; with brilliant dancers, glamorous costumes and spellbinding acts. It was truly the royal appeal of Benidorm and we wanted to see the show again and again.
One of the interesting places to visit near Benidorm is El Castell de Guadalest.
It is a cozy little village tucked away high in the mountains overlooking a spectacular landscape of a river valley, craggy mountains and an emerald blue water lake.
A 40-minute drive through the picturesque mountains took us to classy Alicante. The main sights to see here are the Santa Barbara castle (located on a mountain top) in the city center and the port of Alicante right next to it.
I, personally, found it really charming to stroll along the Explanada de España, the ‘heart and soul’ of Alicante. It is the main promenade, where you can discover the essence of the city and enjoy delicious seafood in one of the many restaurants.

We also made a day trip to Valencia. It is located much further away from Benidorm but is absolutely worth visiting.
This city has an intriguing blend of old and new: gorgeous historical architecture in the city center and modern parks and sites around it. My favorite place by far on this trip was the city of Arts and Sciences Area.
Even if you don’t visit all the museums in this place you can enjoy a walk between astonishing futuristic buildings, crystal-clear pools and attractive green spaces. If a time machine exists, it is right here. It feels like you have travelled into the future.
