Kitzbühel: The Most Fashionable Ski Resort in Austria
The locals call this small town in the Austrian Tyrol, Kitz. For all lovers of ski sport it’s the home of the most famous ski race in the world - ‘Die Strief’. Everyone else just enjoys 170 km of perfectly groomed slopes , the vibrant nightlife and the great, luxury shopping.

This 700-year-old town offers visitors the charm of a real Alpine village. Brightly coloured medieval buildings, a gothic church and cobbled streets make one feel like in a fairytale - especially during the winter.

With Kitzbühel’s buzzing nightlife, its casino, its spas and its award winning restaurants it’s easy to understand why the resort is so popular!

One more thing that makes this place unique: two years in a row (in 2013 and 2014) Kitzbühel was voted ‘the best ski resort in the world’ by skiresort.de, the world's largest skiing portal.

Kitzbühel is located 80 kilometers from Salzburg in between Hahnenkamm and Kitzbüheler Horn Mountain. It got its name from word ‘Kitz’, which means ‘small goat’ in German. As confirmation of this legend, you will see monuments of this animal all around the town.

Shopping lovers will definitely find opportunities here to spend their money.

A ‘gondola’ up the main mountain starts its journey directly from the town, which is really convenient.

A sprawling network of lifts, gondolas and runs thread their way up the mountains in all directions. They offer easy access to neighbouring villages and areas; without needing to take off your skis or your board.

On the way to the highest point of the Kitzbühel resort – 2 000 meters above sea level.

The high-class personality of the town extends onto the slopes as well. One can find great restaurants and sun terraces to relax on high up in the mountains.

The Hahnenkamm downhill in Kitzbühel. Here, every year, the famous ‘Die Strief‘ takes place; the Ski World Cup’s most spectacular race. The Hahnenkamm downhill is the slope that every skier wants to conquer.
This season, 2015, this annual ski race will be held from January 23 to January 25. The best skiers in the world will gather in Kitzbühel to celebrate the highlight of the World Cup calendar; and the 75th anniversary of the Hahnenkamm Race.

No other ski resort in the Alps can boast such a long and successful skiing tradition. Ski pioneer Franz Reisch, ski superstar Toni Sailer and the legendary Karl Koller have all shaped the development of skiing in Kitzbühel since 1892.

Even if you are just a beginner on the slopes you can still find many things to do off them. For example, visit beautiful Innsbruck and the famous Swarovski factory (95 km), Salzburg (80 km) with the Mozart museum or venture to Munich (about 120 km).

You should definitely visit this fascinating place; the AlpenIglu Village. This winter wonderland with its 18 igloos is located near the mountain station Hochbrixen. An overnight stay in an igloo suite is a particularly exciting winter experience. It includes dinner at the ice table and an entertaining programme of activities. You can choose between a comfortable VIP overnight stay and a romantic igloo arrangement or a super-romantic night with candlelit dinner.
