My 30th Birthday Party in Thai Style
Five years ago I celebrated my birthday in Thailand for the first time. Since then it has become a good tradition. Every year I choose a new place: Phuket, Bangkok, Phi-Phi... The most memorable celebration of my 30th anniversary I had on wonderful Koh Samui Island . Amazing settings of the sea view luxury villa of Nora Buri Resort and Spa, lots of surprises and three days of the non-stop celebration. And of course – white sand beaches surrounded by thousands of palms, the turquoise sea sparkling in the sunlight with a picturesque background of lush green hills.

There are direct flights from Bangkok to Samui, but we went there from Phuket Island, first by car, then – by ferry. Just four and a half hours later we arrived to the coconut paradise - the third largest Thailand Island - Koh Samui.

We stayed at Nora Buri Resort and Spa Samui –an isolated place where serenity and seclusion is the name of the game. The first surprise – we had a free upgrade to the pool villa. A great start!

Good birthday morning! While I was enjoying my coffee on the terrace…

…there was a present already waiting for me inside the villa.

After breakfast we went on exploring Koh Samui. For a change after busy Phuket, Samui was so relaxing and peaceful. Everything has its price, and full with all kinds of hotels Samui today is not a hippy destination anymore like it was some 10 years ago. This means lots and lots of tourists. We were lucky to get there in February when it was a low season, and still enjoyed the perfect weather (usually on Samui you might get some rain in winter). Our first stop – the landmark of the Island - the Big Buddha Temple

Wat Plai Laem Temple.

Wat Ratchathammaram or Red Temple.

Very beautiful Lamai beach and Hin Yai and Hin Ta Rocks (Grandmother and Grandfather Rocks).

I felt famous when Thai teenagers stopped me on the beach and asked to sign them their post cards.

We got lost driving through the jungles and accidentally found one of local coconut farms. To tell the truth at first we were t scared by the “Thai hospitality” look on the owners face.

But there was nothing to worry about! They turned out to be a very nice and hospitable Thai family.

They taught us how to open coconuts and prepared a real coconut feast.

There are plenty of similar coconut farms on Koh Samui. The small Island exports the biggest amount of coconuts in all Thailand as there are about 3 million coconut trees.

This is our new friend – the funny newborn elephant named Kha-Kha. He was less than two weeks old and still couldn’t walk properly.

The party is over for this year… See you next time, my beautiful Koh Samui!
