Velassaru Maldives:
Pure Happiness for Honeymooners

If you’re looking for a resort with a little extra va-va-voom, then Velassaru Maldives is the perfect choice. A highly sophisticated resort that pairs contemporary luxury with the natural beauty of the Maldives, this 5-star, 21-acre coral island is situated in the quiet South Malé Atoll and is accessible only by speedboat. The resort has something to suit everyone, from honeymooners (like us) to families to just friends – nobody could ever get bored here!

What amazed us most?
The colour of the water really stands out in my mind. It’s so amazing – clear turquoise blue and the perfect setting for this sandy paradise. No matter where you are in the resort, the ocean is never out of sight. We also loved the friendly heron who wanders the island and is now a symbol of it. Make sure to say hello when you visit!
Why should you come here?
To experience world-class dining options in the many restaurants located close to the main reception and the pool. We enjoyed the intimacy of Turquoise, which offers continental and Asian cuisine and has a stunning panoramic ocean backdrop. Vela is also definitely worth checking out as it has a more laidback vibe and a superb international menu. We were even given a special surprise in the form of a candlelit dinner on the beach, with snacks, champagne and lots of other treats. We were also very impressed with the rooms, each of which has its own garden or walkway to the sea. Very romantic!

The most
special thing about the hotel
The staff are so warm and friendly. It’s also a very international mix – we met people from Russia, Ukraine, Europe, and even Costa Rica. The general manager, Brian, is from Zimbabwe and we had a delicious evening meal with him and his wife. They even invited us to go partying with them which, of course, we took them up on!
How to make
the most of your stay
Enjoy the glorious sunsets at Chill Bar, located right by the ocean. Alternatively, watch the sun go down from the sunset yacht cruise. By the way there is also a early morning sunrise cruise for the early birds. Be sure to check out the live entertainment that is on offer every night with music, dancing and DJs that are sure to get you in the holiday spirit.

What else
is there to see and do?
The capital, Male, is very close-by although it doesn’t feel like it, but there’s really no need to leave the resort. The island is not that big so it’s easy to get around and Velassaru offers an amazing range of activities to suit every taste. For more active guests, there are PADI courses for divers of all levels, in addition to windsurfing, catamaran, kayak hire and fishing trips, to complement the fully-equipped gym and hard tennis court.

For those in search of relaxation, make your way to the The Spa. One of the most beautiful over-water spas in the Maldives, its ten treatment rooms, pool and yoga pavilion are all set on stilts over the clear blue lagoon allowing uninterrupted ocean views. We were lucky enough to experience it and have to admit - it was superb.
How
to get there
The resort is located a 30-minute speedboat ride from Male Airport. There’s no need for extra flights which makes it really convenient to get to.
