What amazed us most?

The historical spirit that you feel the moment you enter the hotel. And the amazing thing is that the hotel looks modern, feels cozy, and well-handled so it's really hard to believe that it's 140 years old.

Why should you come here?

Other than just getting a feeling and vibe of living in one of the oldest hotels in all of Italy, the hotel has very spacious and stylish rooms, a great kitchen, beautiful spa, and a convenient location. Just 5 minutes walking from the center of San Candido and Dolomites.

The most special

thing about the hotel

The feeling of living in such a historically rich place. Guests have an opportunity to appreciate the warmth and expertise of the Ortner Family, who have taken exquisite care of their visitors for over four generations. It's really hard to believe that the hotel was opened by one family in 1882 and has been operating ever since.

The  floors makes a familiar wooden sound when you step on them instantly bringing you back to your childhood memories.
And the amazing thing is that everything around you is original - the furniture, rooms, the piano in a library, and even the exterior design. Looking at old photos you see that the building has barely changed.

Of course, over the years there were some modifications like an upgraded kitchen, added gym, a ski room, and a SPA. But the essence stayed the same.

History

through time

Each of the 36 comfortable rooms and apartments is unique in its décor and variations include late 19th century, the 1920s, and modern designs. The hotel has many small rooms for you to enjoy a morning coffee or your favorite book. You can tell that the planning comes from the time with no cell phones. And you just have to visit the Tyrolean reading room. It's a combination of a library and a chilling area. Unbelievably comfortable sofas and armchairs combined with a wooden interior design makes it perfect for reading, working, or studying.

And the most amazing part is that the hotel is still being run by the Ortner family. Currently by the grand granddaughter and her mother who I was honored to meet and have a conversation with.

the food?

No need to look for anything outside the hotel. After a long day of fun, there is a beautiful dining room where the marvelous dishes of resident chef Andreas Bachmann await. The Parkhotel Sole Paradiso is proud of its renowned cuisine, which is characterized by fresh ingredients and natural flavors and of course an outstanding selection of local wines.

What else

is there to do?

The hotel got you covered in practically anything you might need. A heated indoor swimming pool is surrounded by a solarium, which includes a sauna, Turkish bath, infrared cabin, fitness equipment, and massages. There is also table tennis, billiard and bocce ball and of course the ski room. If business is a must, the hotel has a bright conference hall and fully equipped meeting rooms.

The area around is a well-known winter and summer vacation resort. In the winter, skiing abounds, with 70 miles of cross-country slopes, ski races, excursions on horse-drawn sleds, ice skating, and curling. In the summer enjoy winding woodland paths, lush meadows, and breathtaking scenery.

get the most out of your stay?

  • Spend some time reading in a Tyrolean reading room.
  • Enjoy a delicious 7-course dinner at the restaurant.
  • Visit the SPA facility with a Turkish bath, hot pool and massages.
  • Take a beautiful walk through the forest from the hotel to the nearest town of San Candido.

How to

get there?

The hotel is located in the nearest forest slightly above the city just 5 minutes of walking distance from the city center. So if you come by car it's really simple to find it and park your car right in front of the hotel. In case you travel using public transport there's a bus stop right in front of the hotel. The same bus can take you to the ski lifts as well.

Overall the location is perfect. It's not in the city so you can enjoy nature and peace all around you, but it's also not isolated so you can easily walk to the city center or take a bus to the nearest ski slopes.
