What amazed us most?

The absolute calmness, and stillness, of the place; located on one of the most touristy islands in Asia, the sensational seaview SPA where they work with your energy and your mind, not only your body, and the incredible gastronomic delights of the cliffside restaurant.

Why should you come here?

To experience an amazing green national park with a secluded private beach, to taste exceptional Thai cuisine from all over the kingdom, and to do morning yoga in the cliffside wedding chapel with an breathtaking amazing view to the jungles and the sea.

Our story

The most special thing about the resort we remember after coming home

Is it true that when a Thai home is on fire, the first thing you try to save is your chilli?’– I asked the chef of Dee Plee Thai restaurant whilst having my first ever Thai cooking class at Spice Spoons Anantara Cooking School.

My question made him laugh.

‘I wouldn’t say so. But yes, chilli is very important for us. Without chilli all the food would taste strange and we wouldn’t like it.”

For my first class I chose to cook my favourite; Tom Yum Goong. A spicy prawn soup. The secret of this soup lies in its liquid base; lemongrass, galangal, kaffir lime leaves and chilies are simmered in the right proportions to form this amazing taste which once you’ve tasted you’ll never forget. We cooked elegant crispy golden cups with tiger prawns (Kathorg Thong) as an appetiser and Kao Soi Gai (Chiang Mai noodles with chicken fillet and coconut milk) as the main course. As for the desert we opted for traditional sticky rice with mango, which I discovered is easier to enjoy eating than cooking, as the rice needs to be in water for 6 hours before you steam it.

Eating the food you just cooked was amazing, but even more amazing was having a dinner with an incredible sea view at Dee Plee in the evening under the moonlight. My choice (from a huge Thai menu where you can find just about every Thai dish) was perfect; a giant Phuket lobster cut into three pieces, each of them cooked in a different sauce; sweet, sour and spicy. The dish was mouthwatering, and the service was perfect.

The next morning began with yet another amazing experience; yoga in a wedding chapel on a cliff with one of the visiting practitioners, Den. This was yoga with the best view I’ve ever had in my life, and it was an individual class (the hotel was full but other people preferred French croissants to Indian practices). I didn’t want the class to finish as it felt almost …magical.

How to make

the most of your stay

Book a Beachfront Layan Pool Villa decorated in modern Thai style with direct access to a deserted beach (there are just 6 of them, so do it in time), and order the in-Villa Slumber Guru Experience which will take the importance of a good night’s rest to a whole new level. This in-Villa ritual begins with a soak in a luxuriant bath infused with essential oils in your candlelit bathroom. You’ll then be treated to a relaxing back, neck and shoulder massage using ylang ylang, or lavender, essential oils. You will be offered hot chocolate or herbal tea served with homemade cookies. You will listen to the sounds of soothing music you’ve chosen before lying in a sumptuous bed dressed in 1000 thread count Egyptian cotton and your personal pillow choice, which is sprayed with a heavenly mist, accompanied by a silk or cool gel filled eye mask, making drifting away to the land of nod a blissful pleasure.

Enjoy the amazing sunset lying with a cocktail in a Jacuzzi on the beach infinity pool.

Stay fit doing Muay Tai sessions. The hotel has the ring and visiting tutors to hone your skills. You will have beautiful surroundings while training; lush tropical gardens, a small pond with fountains and funny ducks watching you working hard. Afterwards I recommend that you to head to the fabulous spa (which is an essential part of Anantara's DNA) to relax and heal both your body and your mind, as the spa takes healing pretty seriously, and each of their rituals includes deep relaxing massage and reflexology that clears blockages of energy and promotes overall wellbeing. Here you can spoil yourself with natural herbal Anantara cosmetics, or award winning prestige Elemis brand.

What else

is there to see?

There is so much to see, and enjoy, on Phuket Island. The hotel is located along Phuket’s serene west coast, but in 10-30 minutes you can reach all the other places and areas, including Laguna’s shops and restaurants, Patong's vibrant nightlife, colourful Phuket town, the Phuket Fantasea elephant show and many other attractions.

How to

get there?

It takes you just 20 minutes by car from Phuket airport to come to the resort. We absolutely loved a luxurious BMW 7 series transfer, which took us from and to the airport.
